In our 3rd year of competitive South Wales Valleys Basketball, the senior plate competition offered the clubs only chance of silverware for the season. Having won our respective leagues and 1 cup final over the last 2 years expectations were high. In an extremely close competition against 2nd Division Barry 2nds in the final, it wasn't to be & for the 1st season since it's formation no silverware made its way back to Whitland... & so to 2010 / 2011 and a chance to rebuild!
Coach Dai Williams - quote:
"Barry game was a bad day at the office for us, first quarter we pretty much had our way with them, defensively stopped everything, denied their shooter, and got their big guy in foul trouble, and as a result had an 18 - 8 lead at the quarter. Then complacency set in and we just stopped playing, ball movement was non existent, and fast breaks dried up, also we missed a ridiculous 19 free throws.
Barry didnt do anything special, and just crept ahead, and we helped by not commiting to offence, and remembering the stuff we'd practiced, dissapointing all in all, but Barry fully deserved the plate."
