West Wales Tropics - Play Offs Day 2009

Sunday the 26th April 2009, will go down in West Wales history as one of the greatest days for the sport in the region.

Both our u.16's and senior teams travelled to Caerphilly to play in South Wales Valleys Finals. The juniors faced UWIC academy in the final of the u.16's Cup, whilst the seniors faced a play-off final against Cardiff Capitals to determine the winners of Division 2.

The first game saw the juniors lose in a thrilling game to UWIC, whose greater experience showed through in the latter stages of the game. This was soon forgotten when at the presentations it was announced that our u.16's had won the u.16 league and were presented with the shield and individual medals.

The senior game certainly passed all expectations for excitement. Just like the season it was an absolute nailbiter coming down to the last play in the last second of the game, the Tropics coming out victorious in 69 - 68 win. At the final whistle the place erupted, with a fantastic season cuminating in Dan 'Smooth' Powell collecting the Division 2 Shield.

The victories were made even sweeter by the large number of supporters that had travelled with the teams to Caerphilly. The supporters all sporting 'Tropical' attire to add to the fun of the day.

Whether this day can ever be repeated is debatable, but no-one was left with any doubt that West Wales Basketball was here and was a force to be reckoned with in South Wales Basketball.
